Spacer (2) by means of which a predetermined distance between an ignition switch and a control knob of a gas burner of a gas hob, a gas stove or a gas oven can be reproduced in a rest position of the control knob, characterized in that the spacer (2) has an outer sleeve (4) and an inner part (6), the inner part (6) for setting a length of the spacer (2) corresponding to the distance parallel to a longitudinal axis (8) of the spacer (2) at least partially along the longitudinal axis (8) of the spacer (2) in the outer sleeve (4) can be pushed in, and the outer sleeve (4) and the inner part (6) have locking means (10) corresponding to one another, by means of which the position of the inner part (6) relative to the outer sleeve (4) along the longitudinal axis (8 ) can be determined in such a way that the previously set length of the spacer (2) upon repeated transfer of the operating toggle between the rest position and e iner operating position of the control knob is essentially retained.
