PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow for generating light beams with 90-degree phase difference using a simpler configuration.;SOLUTION: An optical 90-degree phase shifter 10 is configured to split input light P₁ into a waveguide 13 and a waveguide 14, split the light propagating through the waveguide 14 into a waveguide 16 and a waveguide 21, apply the same amount of heat to the waveguide 14 and the waveguide 16 to modulate light propagating through the waveguide 14 and the waveguide 16, and control the amount of heat applied to the waveguide 14 and the waveguide 16 to reduce intensity of interference light between the modulated light propagating through the waveguide 16 and the light propagating through the waveguide 13.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2018,JPO&INPIT
