A method according to the invention is presented for a radar system for detecting the surroundings with transmission means for emitting transmission signals which contain a sequence of at least approximately identical individual signals, characterized in that over the sequence of the individual signals their frequency position, in particular characterized by their center frequency, and their time interval - possibly in each case apart from a varying and at least approximately mean-value-free portion - be changed at least approximately linearly, the amount of the relative change in the time interval being at least approximately twice as large as the amount of the relative change in the frequency position and the signs of these changes being opposite.
