The present invention relates to providing fluorescent silica nanoparticles that have high brightness even when silica particles are made to encapsulate a large quantity of fluorescent dye. These fluorescent silica nanoparticles comprises silica nanoparticles and a fluorescent dye encapsulated by the silica nanoparticles, wherein the total volume of the fluorescent dye is at least 5% of the total volume of the fluorescent silica nanoparticles and the luminescent quantum yield of the fluorescent silica nanoparticles is at least 10%.
