The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for setting a controller board ID of a HVDC system, the method and the apparatus setting a board ID on the basis of the mounting location of the board and the type of board so as to easily identify an inspection location and the type of board, and easily detecting the mounting location of the board and the type of board so that board inspection time can be reduced. The apparatus for setting a controller board ID of the HVDC system comprises: an IO board for controlling a sub-module; a main board for managing at least one IO board; and a backplane for connecting the main board to at least one IO board.
