A method (400) for detecting electrical arcing faults, comprising: measuring a maximum current amplitude of a first half cycle of a detected current waveform (410, 428); detecting a current slope at an arc zero crossing of the first half cycle or a next half cycle (419, 421); comparing the maximum current amplitude with an amplitude threshold (415); and comparing the current slope to a dynamic slope threshold (418).
