INTEGRATED SPATIAL DOWNSAMPLING OF VIDEO DATA

Implementations include video image processing systems, methods, and apparatus for integrated video downscaling in a video core. The downscaler computes and records the display frame in an external memory. Such a frame may have the same resolution as the target display device (eg, mobile device). The target display device then reads this display frame instead of the original higher resolution frame. By enabling downscaling during encoding/decoding, a device can save resources such as memory bandwidth, memory access, bus bandwidth, and power consumption associated with downscaling a frame of video data separately.
