A method for transforming a data model into a target ontology for automation purposes

Embodiments for providing data as described herein generally involve transformation of the OPC UA data model into an ontology. Such an ontology facilitates the desired capabilities for validation, querying and analysis of OPC UA data models using sophisticated standard tools coordinated with the ontology. In an embodiment, a method for converting a semantically enhanced graph-based data model, in particular an OPC UA data model, into a target ontology is proposed. By a first step, identifications of the nodes of the data model are retrieved. Subsequently or concurrently, semantic descriptions of one or more references interconnecting one or more nodes are retrieved. These semantic descriptions are represented by at least one or more predicates and one or more concepts (eg, classes) within the target ontology to be created. In the end, the target ontology is structured by the semantic ontology language and output to the triple storage.
