PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine for sewing a tape which, when continuously sewing the tape on the side edge parts of a plurality of fabrics, avoids the occurrence of a failure situation of unnecessarily cutting a portion of a subsequent fabric, and which can cut the tape automatically and precisely without causing the occurrence of waste.SOLUTION: A sewing machine for sewing a long belt-like object is provided with a fabric pressing/stopping device 8. When, while a plurality of fabrics are successively fed, a tape continuously fed to be supplied onto the side edge parts of the plurality of fabrics is continuously sewn thereon at a sewing part 2, at a point when the sewing finish end part of a preceding fabric W1 reaches a prescribed tape cutting position, the fabric pressing/stopping device 8 can keep a fabric portion W2c, of the sewing start end part of a subsequent fabric W2, which protrudes to the downstream side of a tape sewing portion in a sewing advance direction, locally away from the tape cutting position of a tape cutting device 3, or can press and hold it at a position on the upstream side of the tape cutting position in the sewing advance direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
