Presented herein are systems and methods for aligning one or more images of one or more objects based on automatic generation of artificial landmarks. Artificial landmarks are points in the image that are associated with a particular physical location in the imaged area. Artificial landmarks are generated in an automated and robust manner along the bones of the skeleton of interest represented in the image (eg, graphically). Use automatically generated artificial landmarks to correct the distortion of a single image, or the distortion of multiple images in a series of images (recorded at different times), and/or Align multiple images simultaneously.
