Compositions and methods are provided for enhancing the properties of the rhizosphere as well as enhancing plant immunity using useful microorganisms and/or growth byproducts thereof. In particular, the present invention improves plant health, growth and/or yield by applying yeast-based compositions to plants (eg roots) and/or their surrounding environment (eg soil). In particular, in one embodiment, the present invention uses the killer yeast Wickerhamomyces anomalus and/or closely related species.
