PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for more correctly finding an altitude of -10°C.;SOLUTION: An electric charge existence altitude calculation system includes: at least one thunder observation device for observing a first return thunderstroke and outputting latitude and longitude of an occurrence site of the first return thunderstroke and an electrical current wave high value of the first return thunderstroke; a thunder electric field waveform recording device for detecting a preliminary breakdown pulse, estimating and outputting the duration time of a stepped leader of the first return thunderstroke from the generation time of the first return thunderstroke and the generation time of the preliminary breakdown pulse; and an electric charge existence altitude calculation device for calculating an electric charge existence altitude of the first return thunderstroke. The electric charge existence altitude calculation device executes: the processing for acquiring the altitude and the longitude of the generation site of the first return thunderstroke from the thunder observation device and the electrical current wave high value of the first return thunderstroke; the processing for acquiring the duration time of the stepped leader of the first return thunderstroke from the thunder electric field waveform recording device; the processing for acquiring the altitudes of the first return thunderstroke; and the processing for calculating and outputting the electric charge existence altitude.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5;COPYRIGHT: (C)2018,JPO&INPIT
