The present invention relates to obtaining a hydrofining catalyst support using a novel preparation route that mitigates the issue of boron loss (or leaching) during operation of industrial units. Since the presence of boron in the catalysts helps to increase activity (hydrogenating and acid) and stability for the hydrofining reactions (hydrotreating and hydrocracking), keeping the boron in the catalyst ensures that the operational properties are retained throughout the entire campaign cycle of the industrial units.
