The preparation of monodisperse TiO 2 nanocrystals having a nanocrystal size of 1 to 30 nm is described herein. These TiO 2 nanocrystals are used to prepare dispersions in solvents, formulations with monomers, oligomers, and polymers, and nanocomposites from the resulting formulations. Dispersions of nanocrystals can be formed in a variety of solvents with high loading, high permeability and low viscosity. Formulations incorporating these nanocrystals and matrix materials are highly stable, wherein the resulting nanocomposite has a high refractive index and is optically transparent at visible wavelengths and has little or no scattering.
