The present invention provides fibers for rubber reinforcement which are able to be produced using a bio-derived starting material, and which are not susceptible to breaking even if complexed with a rubber material. First fibers for rubber reinforcement according to the present invention are characterized by using protein fibers that contain a hydrophobic protein. Second fibers for rubber reinforcement according to the present invention are characterized by using protein fibers that have an initial tensile elastic modulus of 2.0 GPa or more in a wet state. These fibers for rubber reinforcement are preferably provided with coating layers in the surfaces, said coating layers being formed from an aqueous adhesive composition.
