Disclosed is a method and system for calculating a trade-off between data confidentiality and utility. Large data hubs, such as data marketplaces, are data sources that can be practical for data buyers. However, the output data provided to the seller of the data must meet the seller's confidentiality requirements for the data, while at the same time maintaining some level of practicability for the buyer of the data. Previously known methods of achieving data confidentiality tend to compress the components of the data, which leads to a reduction in the practicability of the data. The system and method of the present invention calculate this trade-off and demonstrate the need for pre-sharing data conversion when data is shared with the seller of data.
