The inventive procedure for resuscitating a vehicle occupant captures a vehicle occupant (I) with a sensor (K) inside a vehicle (1). Sensor data generated with the sensor are evaluated (2),to perform a classification of the occupant. Depending on the classification of the occupant, one or more parameters of a resuscitation signal are selected (3). A vehicle component (G) is controlled according to the reanimation signal (4),to affect a vital function of the vehicle occupant.
