This method (100), which is implemented by a man-machine interface system on board an aircraft and managing a navigation display, allows dynamic updating of a display of a search function. performing the steps of: reading (110) a value of an operating mode (MC (t)) of the navigation display; interrogating (150) a database to determine graphic objects associated with the read value; updating (160) a display unit of the search function using, as current graphic objects, the graphic objects retrieved from the database; and, upon invoking the display unit, generating display data using the current graphical objects so that the search display is indicative of the mode of operation of the navigation display.
