Disclosed in the present invention is the application of sodium p-hydroxybenzoate in the preparation of drugs for the treatment or prevention of inflammatory bowel disease. In the case of a significantly lower dose than mesalazine, sodium p-hydroxybenzoate can significantly inhibit the increase in the disease activity index score of sodium dextran sulphate-induced enteritis model mice, improve the shortening of colon length in colitis model mice, reduce mouse colon MPO activity, and reduce inflammatory cell infiltration in colitis model colon tissue. Also disclosed in the present invention is a drug for the treatment or prevention of inflammatory bowel disease; the drug uses sodium p-hydroxybenzoate as the active ingredient and contains a therapeutically effective dose of sodium p-hydroxybenzoate.
