The present disclosure relates to a portable device (100) for hoisting/ lowering/storing a rope (1) from a tall structure (2), such as a wind turbine. The device is formed of an assembly of a rope storage container (10) and a rope driver (20) reversibly connected thereto. The rope storage container (10v) defines a rope storage volume (10v) bound between a bottom surface (10s) and an outer side wall (10w). The rope driver (20) is reversibly connectable to the container and comprises a rope passage (23) having a dimension matching a diameter of the rope. The passage is formed between a pair of adjacent rollers (24, 25) or between a drive coil (80) and a clamp (81). The rope is driven (hoisted and stored or provided and lowered) by an electric motor (26) arranged to drive at least one of rollers or the drive coil.
