Examples include a storage system that separately handles parts of a write operation that are oriented and misaligned with respect to retrievable segments from a storage device. For misaligned parts, a buffer can be used to store misaligned retrievable segments and update the segments with content provided with the write operation. Equipped parts of content associated with a writing request can be written directly into the storage medium or overwrite corresponding retrievable segments present in the buffer. A table or array can have logical block addresses,match, track the contents in the buffer or in the storage. Content in the buffer can be held in the buffer without being secured or persisted in storage until a trigger event occurs, such as power failure or little space in the buffer.
