The invention relates to a luminescent element with a normal motif area (30), the colored normal motif of which can be recognized in the visible spectral range without tools, and with a luminescent motif area (40) overlapping the normal motif area (30), the colored luminescent motif of which only after excitation with UV or IR radiation becomes recognizable. According to the invention it is provided that the luminescence motif area (40) contains at least one color area (42; 46) which luminesces with a uniform hue after excitation by UV or IR radiation, and which has a first partial color area (44-1; 48-1) which lies outside the overlap area with the normal motif area (30) and a second color sub-area (44-2; 48-2) which lies within the overlap area with the normal motif area (30), the first color sub-area (44-1; 48- 1) contains one or more luminescent colors that produce the aforementioned uniform hue with several spectral components upon UV or IR excitation, and the second color sub-area (44-2; 48-2) contains one or more luminescent colors whose luminescence on the overlapping the visually visible color of the normal motif area (30) is matched so that, in the case of UV or IR excitation, its spectral components together with the visually visible color of the above-mentioned create a daily color tone.
