Systems and methods are provided for specifying region information such as the source and nature of recommended viewports, as well as priorities among multiple recommended viewports. The virtual reality video data can represent a 360 degree view of the virtual environment. In various examples, an area of virtual reality video data can be determined, where the area includes a 360 degree view subsection. A data structure is generated for the region, where the data structure contains parameters that describe the region. The parameter can include the source associated with the region.
