The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical and health functional food composition for the prevention of ischemic brain diseases containing pine bark extract as an active ingredient, wherein the pine bark extract has a remarkable ability to protect neurons and inhibit neuronal cell death compared to other parts of pine trees. It has been confirmed that it is excellent and can effectively prevent nerve damage in the CA1 region of the brain hippocampal tissue, which is known to be sensitive to cerebral ischemia, and thus can be usefully used to effectively prevent ischemic brain disease.
