METHODS FOR ARTIFICIALLY AGING ALUMINUM-ZINC-MAGNESIUM ALLOYS, AND PRODUCTS BASED ON THE SAME

A new method of aging aluminum alloys with zinc and magnesium is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of first aging the aluminum alloy at a first temperature of about 310°F to 530°F for a first aging time of 1 minute to 6 hours, and then the aluminum alloy at a second temperature lower than the first temperature for 30 minutes. It may include a second aging step for the above second aging time.
