The invention concerns a system for the expression of non-tribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPSs),Polyketide synthases (PKS) or NRPS/PKS hybrid synth(et)ases. NRPS, PKS or their hybrids are large multi-domain proteins or multi-domain complexes, the expression of which often poses difficulties for the production of peptides. Accordingly, the invention concerns a system for the expression of parts of the enzymes that can be assembled post-translational via specifically introduced protein protein interactions to functional multi-enzyme complexes. The invention reveals protein fragments of such a kit,and their coding nucleic acids. A vector system of the protein fragments of the invention and its use for the production of functional NRPS/PKS enzyme complexes is also revealed.
