Provided is a method for producing molten iron by melting a cold scrap in an electric furnace equipped with a carbonaceous material blowing device, whereby it becomes possible to blow a carbonaceous material into the molten iron with high efficiency without deteriorating safety performance. In the carbonaceous material blowing device, a carbonaceous material a is ejected from a center part of the device with a carrier gas, and a fuel b and a combustion-assisting gas c are ejected separately from an outer peripheral part of the device, so that the carbonaceous material a ejected from the center part is blown into a molten slug and molten iron through a tubular burning flame formed as the result of a combustion reaction between the fuel b and the combustion-assisting gas c. The carbonaceous material a flowing through the tubular burning flame is not affected by a surrounding gas flow, and therefore the flow speed of the carbonaceous material a cannot be diminished and can be kept at a high speed. Therefore, the carbonaceous material a can be separated from the carrier gas while keeping the inertia force thereof at a high level, and then can reach and enter into the molten slug and the molten iron.
