PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a blood flow velocity by using diffusion speckle contrast analysis in a spatial region and a temporal region. Spatial region analysis uses a multi-pixel image sensor to diffuse light from a coherent light source that is blurred due to the movement of scatterers in the sample (eg, the movement of red blood cells in a tissue sample). The spatial distribution of speckles in the resulting sample can be detected. Blood flow can be calculated using the statistical analysis of the spatial distribution. In time domain analysis, slow counters can be used to obtain time-series variations in light intensity in a sample caused by the diffusion of light in the sample, which is smoothed by the motion of the scatterer.
