Detection of explanation requests using the communication discourse tree

The systems, devices, and methods of the present invention relate to detecting a request for description in text. In one example, the method creates a discourse tree from a subset of text. The discourse tree contains nodes, each non-terminal node represents a rhetorical relationship between two of the fragments, and each terminal node of the nodes of the discourse tree is associated with one of the fragments. The method forms a communication discourse tree from a discourse tree by matching each fragment with a verb to the verb signature. The method further identifies that a subset of text contains a request for explanation by applying a classification model trained to detect the request for explanation to the communication discourse tree.
