To provide a kick starter capable of preventing dust from sticking on a slide part etc., between members.SOLUTION: A kick starter of a power unit 3 for a saddle-riding type vehicle is characterized in that a kick starting mechanism 81 having: a drive member 85 which has a cooling air intake port 70 outside an in-cover partition plate 72 partitioning off a vehicle width direction outer side of a belt chamber 50 between a transmission case 37 and a transmission case cover 38 of the power unit, and comprises a kick driving gear 84; a power transmission member 89 in which a kick driven gear 87 engaged with the kick driving gear 84 at a helical gear engagement part 90 and a power transmission gear 88 transmitting power to a crank shaft 41, are integrally formed, and which is aligned with the crank shaft; and a friction spring 92 coming into sliding contact with the power transmission gear, is supported by the transmission case cover, and cooling air is blown into the belt chamber from a circumference of the power transmission member. The friction spring is positioned inside the in-cover partition plate in a vehicle width direction, and the in-cover partition plate has a bent part 72b covering the friction spring from an outer peripheral side of the power transmission gear.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
