Disclosed are a method and apparatus for mapping a reference signal sequence, and a method and apparatus for demapping a reference signal sequence, wherein same are used for solving the problem in the prior art of a relatively large time domain overhead of a reference signal with a single-carrier waveform. In the present application, a sending device can map a reference signal sequence to a modulation symbol set, so as to obtain a multiplexed set, and the multiplexed set occupies a single-carrier time domain symbol. Compared with a solution where a reference signal sequence separately occupies one single-carrier time domain symbol, a time domain overhead of a reference signal can be reduced. In addition, in order to correctly perform channel estimation or channel sounding by means of the reference signal, different reference signal sequences also need to satisfy a condition, such as orthogonality or conjugate orthogonality, and the position of the reference signal sequence in different multiplexed sets also needs to satisfy corresponding conditions, etc.
