An HVDC circuit breaker (200, 300, 400) comprises three or more terminals (201a, 201b, 201c; 301a, 301b, 310c; 401a, 401b, 401c) and, for each group of two of the terminals, a respective inter-terminal connection branch between the terminals. The inter-terminal connection branches each comprise at least one commutation switch arrangement (210a, 210b, 210c; 310a, 310b, 310c; 410a, 410b, 410c). Each commutation switch arrangement comprises one commutation switch or one commutation switch per bus interconnection. Each commutation switch has a disconnector and a controllable bi-directional semiconductor switch arrangement connected in series. The HVDC circuit breaker further comprises a common main switch (220, 320, 420) configured to take over a switch-off current from each of the commutation switches.
