Progressive feature development and workload capture within the database system

A system, method, and device are disclosed for incremental function development and workload capture in a database system. The method includes determining a workload containing one or more historical client queries to be re-run to test the function, the function including procedural logic. The method further includes executing a baseline operation of a workload that does not implement the function, and executing a target operation of the workload while implementing the function. The method further includes comparing the baseline operation with the target operation to identify if there is a performance regression in the target operation. The method further includes, in response to the identification of the performance regression, rerunning the target operation to identify if the performance regression still exists.
