To code three-dimensional (3D) video data by deriving a disparity vector.SOLUTION: A video coder can be configured to: perform texture first coding for a first texture view, a first depth view, a second texture view, and a second depth view; for a macroblock of the second texture view, locate a depth block of the first depth view that corresponds to the macroblock; based on at least one depth value of the depth block, derive a disparity vector for the macroblock; based on the derived disparity vector, code a first sub-block of the macroblock; and, based on the derived disparity vector, code a second sub-block of the macroblock.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
