The present technology discloses an apparatus and method for inverting an acoustic wave waveform for a velocity model. According to a specific example of the present technology, an objective function and a regular equation are generated through the residual data between the wave field of observation data and the wave field derived from the solution of the wave equation set using model data, and a linear conjugate gradient ( CG) method is used to estimate a virtual scattering source, and a scattering wave field is derived from the estimated virtual scattering source using an extended Born approximation method, and the wave field is updated by adding the wave length of the initial model to the derived scattering wave field, As the velocity model is updated based on the updated wave field using the gradient and Hessian matrix for applying the full Newtonian technique, the scattering wave field becomes smaller and the velocity model that converges to a predetermined true value is updated. A robust speed model can be derived.
