An additive manufacturing process for the manufacture of a three-dimensional object (2) in an additive manufacturing device (1) by selective layer-white fixation of structural material (13) by laser irradiation, where:in a process chamber (3), a layer of structural material is repeatedly applied to a layer of structural material already selectively fixed and scanned at locations with laser radiation corresponding to the cross-section of the object in that layer,the laser beam is produced with a laser light source (21) and directed over a number of optical components to the building material layer, the optical components being housed in an optical room enveloped by an optical enclosure (20a),is characterized by maintaining a defined gas atmosphere within the optical space, keeping the relative humidity of the defined gas atmosphere below 3%.
