The invention refers to a process for shrinking a thermoplastic packaging material (4) to an article (2) or to a composition of articles (2) and a shrinking device for carrying out such a process. In this case, the article covered with thermoplastic packaging material (4) or the article covered with thermoplastic packaging material (2) shall be:(4) encapsulated assembly of articles (2) over a transport line (TS) in a transport direction (TR) supported by a shrinking device (10). The thermoplastic packaging material (4) covers the article (2) or the thermoplastic packaging material (4) covers the assembly of articles (2) from above with shrinking medium (HL)which has a first temperature (T1). In addition, the thermoplastic packaging material (4) is coated (2) or the thermoplastic packaging material (4) is coated with a shrinking medium (HL) with a second temperature (T2) on the side. It is intended that there is a temperature difference of at least three degrees Celsius between the first temperature (T1) and the second temperature (T2).
