FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing powder containing single-phase high-entropy carbide of the composition Ti-Nb-Zr-Hf-Ta-C with a cubic lattice, it can be used for the production of refractory materials. The powders of titanium oxide TiO2, niobium oxide Nb2O5, zirconium oxide ZrO2, hafnium oxide HfO2, tantalum oxide Ta2O5 and X-ray amorphous carbon used in an equimolar ratio are mixed in a ball mill for 2 hours. The resulting powder mixture is placed in the cavity of a graphite container in the form of a graphite cup, which is the cathode, exposed to a DC arc discharge in the air in the cathode cavity by contacting the anode in the form of a solid graphite rod with the powder mixture at a current strength of 180-220 A for 25-40 s. The discharge combustion is interrupted by the removal of the anode from the cathode.
