The present invention relates to an apparatus for cooling heated yarn, wherein the yarn can be guided at the groove bottom of an elongated cooling groove of a cooling body. The cooling groove is connected to a metering device for supplying the coolant via a metering opening provided at the groove bottom. According to the present invention, the cooling body is sealed in the housing to prevent the steam generated during cooling and the cooling residual liquid from being loaded on the surrounding environment. A slit is provided, and the insertion slit extends between a yarn inlet and a yarn outlet provided in the housing.
