To provide a pharmaceutical composition for treating alcohol dependence of a patient with alcohol dependence.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition containing nalmefene, where the composition reduces alcohol consumption in a patient, and the nalmefene is used for a patient identified to have a drinking risk level (DRL) corresponding to >60 g/day of pure alcohol consumption for men and >40 g/day for women.SELECTED DRAWING: None
