The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for providing automated control for respiratory pressure therapy equipment such as servo ventilators. For example, the controller of the respiratory pressure therapy device can be controlled to apply pressure-assisted ventilation therapy to the patient's airway. The controller may automatically titrate positive airway pressure (EPAP) for pressure-assisted ventilation therapy so that the respiratory pressure therapy device can be controlled to maintain the patient's airway patency. The lower limit of the EPAP may be limited by a lower limit pressure. The controller may control the respiratory pressure therapy device to repeatedly adjust the lower limit pressure according to an event of interest during the automatic titration of the EPAP. Such a method can improve the treatment of patients suffering from sleep-disordered hyperalgesia.
