A layout and method using a MIMO system for improving the angular resolution of a radar are provided. A distributed and compact MIMO radar antenna layout and an imaging algorithm are used to significantly improve resolution of a radar system with respect to a target. Firstly, two different compact MIMO radars each having a three-transmission four-reception antenna layout are independently designed, the two radars having respective angular resolutions; the two compact MIMO radars are spaced apart from each other by a certain distance so as to form a distributed MIMO radar; a fast algorithm is used to calculate, for each pixel point in a certain space region, a round-trip delay thereof relative to an antenna position; an echo index is determined on the basis of the delay; and an imaging pattern of a corresponding echo in a configured space region is obtained. Two radars perform imaging separately, and an intersection thereof is a target position, providing a new field to which a fast imaging algorithm can be applied, so as to improve angular resolution with respect to a target position.
