Antibodies and antigen-binding fragments that specifically bind to the microtubule-associated protein tau

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective means for diagnosing, monitoring, preventing and treating tauopathy. An antibody containing an antigen-binding variable region that specifically binds to tau is disclosed. Specifically, we disclose anti-tau antibodies, which detect tau in normal (ie, healthy) human brain tissue, but not tau deposits in human Alzheimer's disease brain tissue, and antigen-binding fragments thereof. The anti-tau antibody and its antigen-binding fragment bind to recombinant tau and PHF tau according to the Western assay, and do not bind to PHF tau according to ELISA. The antibody and the antigen-binding fragment have a specific binding ability to a non-phosphorylated tau peptide.
