According to one embodiment, the systems and methods for heterogeneous database replication from a remote server (eg, a remote database server) are described herein. The capture process can be registered as a replication slave on the remote server. The capture process may be configured to receive transaction event data from the server. Transaction log events associated with database changes on the remote server are processed and can be output as change data in canonical format output for one or more heterogeneous targets (eg, target database server or message queue). This process adds a copy of the transaction log to a transaction log event associated with a database transaction on a different computer or network, or on a remote server that may be located in an environment with restricted access (eg, a cloud environment).
