From a scientific point of view we get a deeper look at internal potassium balance- our knowledge of electrolyte status of the body gets a new dimension.To date, this parameter (potassium concentration in erythrocytes) is completely unknown in clinical medicine.The production of the described single items for blood sample preparation is technologicallyMedical industry very simple, the introduction into clinical practice becomes a great practically relevant innovation in clinical medicine.1. The methods currently available for measuring potassium concentration in erythrocytes are atomic spectrometry and flame photometry. Both procedures are very expensive and have not established themselves in medical practice.2. The new procedure is based on the measurement with modern ion-selective electrodes, which are standard equipment for all common blood gas analysers. It is now possible to measure potassium concentration in erythrocytes in a few minutes.Three. The single items for preparing the blood sample will simplify the current manual procedure many times, and this important parameter will be made available to clinicians in a few minutes.Four. Fields of application: emergency diagnosis in intensive care centres, medical laboratory in hospitals and practices, experimental laboratories, etc.
