The invention relates to a method for time synchronization in an Ethernet-based network, which comprises a master network subscriber, a first segment and a second segment, each segment having at least one network subscriber, the second segment being connected to the first segment by means of a first network distributor arranged in the first segment, which method comprises steps: for sending out a synchronization telegram by means of the master network subscriber, which synchronization telegram is addressed to the second segment, the synchronization telegram having a first type; for receiving the synchronization telegram by means of the first network distributor; for converting the synchronization telegram into a second type by means of the first network distributor; for forwarding the synchronization telegram to a network subscriber of the second segment by means of the first network distributor; for reading out a synchronization value stored in the synchronization telegram, by means of the network subscriber of the second segment; and for adjusting the rate of change of a local system time of the network subscriber of the second segment using the synchronization value.
