System and procedures for identifying and decoding Reed Muller codes in polar codes

A procedure and device for decoding a polar code are provided. A simplified SSCL decoding tree (SSCL = simplified successive cancellation list) for the polar code is created. The SSCL decoding tree contains a variety of nodes. One or more nodes from the variety of nodes are identified as nodes using Reed Muller codes for decoding. The decoding of the received Log Likelihood Ratios (LLRs) is performed using Reed Muller codes on one or more nodes. Hard decision values are issued by one or more nodes.
