A power consumption control unit that controls the power consumed by one or more connected electrical devices, comprising a computer processor that is operably connected and has a memory for storing computer instruction codes. Connected to a communication module capable of operating to receive control signals from a remotely located energy manager requesting a change in the power consumed by one or more connected electrical devices. It further comprises a monitoring module capable of operating to monitor the power consumed by more than one electrical device, and when executed by the computer processor, the computer instruction code causes the computer processor to be one connected. It controls the supply of power to these electrical devices and sends one or more notifications about the power consumed by one or more connected electrical devices to a remotely located energy manager.
