The invention relates to a bus driver (CANTR) for controlling a differential data bus which can be in a dominant data bus state (DBM) and in a recessive data bus state (RBM). In the dominant data bus state (DBM), the bus driver (CANTR) applies the first and second single-wire data bus line (CH, CL) to a first and second electrical potential (HP, LP) and in the recessive data bus state (RBM) drives the first and second single-wire data bus line (CH, CL) temporarily not. In the recessive data bus state (RBM) after a change from the dominant data bus state (DBM) to the recessive data bus state (RBM), the bus driver (CANTR) sets the first and second single-wire data bus lines (CH, CL) to a fourth electrical potential (MPH) for an active time (TA) , MPL).
