This polyvinyl alcohol-based optical film has a width of 2 m or more and a length of 4 km or more, wherein the number of bubbles having a diameter not smaller than 50 µm included in an area surrounded by a width A (m) × a length B (km) (A ≥ 2 m and B ≥ 4 km) is 0.01/m2 or less. Thus, a polarizing film obtained by using the polyvinyl alcohol-based optical film has less display defects and has a high quality.
